<image:title>Services - “Shona has been working with our son with complex needs, including global development delays, for many years. Shona is a constant in our son’s life and he always lights up when he arrives at her sessions. She is patient, kind and sees the possibilities in her clients. I don’t know where we would be without her. Through Shona’s work with our son, he’s become more adept at holding a mallet, which has made a big difference in his self feeding.“</image:title>

      <image:title>About - Music as Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>“What do you do in music therapy?" is the most commonly posed question we hear. Not to mention having fun, a music therapy session can include, but not be limited, to the following interventions: Movement ~ including rhythmic activities. Music therapists are trained to utilize the rhythm based techniques that are aimed at promoting the client's range of motion, balance, coordination, fine and gross motor skills, relaxation, mobility, and strength. Improvising ~ either in a structured or spontaneous environment, improvising offers a creative and non-verbal means of communicating positive or negative emotions in a non-threatening space. Playing instruments ~ while improving fine and gross motor coordination, instrument playing can increase a client's self-esteem, attention span, leadership, and well-being, all while providing a sense of accomplishment. Songwriting ~ used to facilitate the expression of ideas, emotions, and experiences which result in the client's satisfaction of having created something. Singing ~ articulation, rhythm, and breath control are areas in which singing aids in development. In groups, singing can reduce fear and anxiety, while promoting social skills and awareness of others. In individual settings, singing can provide a means of improving the development of speech and self-esteem.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Music as Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>“What exactly is music therapy?” That’s a question we get asked often. Most of us intuitively understand some of the soul-soothing benefits of listening to or playing music, but music therapy entails much more. Music therapy is an evidence-based and accredited health practice that uses music as the tool of intervention. In other words, music is used as a means to address an individual’s emotional, physical, social, and cognitive objectives within the context of a therapeutic relationship. The therapeutic interventions may include singing, songwriting, playing instruments, movement, and more.</image:caption>
